Some photos I took back in 2005 on a visit to Chitzen Itza, Yucatan. The following year, tourists we not allowed to climb the structure.
I was told that the steepness of the pyramid’s steps was designed to prevent a worshiper to walk straight down the structure, as doing so would present the person’s backside to the temple.
